Sometimes keeping things simple is brilliant enough. The movie Tumbbad is so simple and yet totally amazing.
It has many elements that were "first time" for Indian cinema. Nothing was particularly big about it in terms of star cast, production, no big names, publicity and marketing. The team still delivered a cult hit and in my opinion one of a kind horror, tale and lesson portrayed on screen that perfected every inch. Every department did complete justice to the story telling and further enhanced the overall experience of viewer. Writing department did their part and deliver the message with impact in a subtle way but surely like when on the way to doctor, rider ask (after aparent death of the child) to mother whether she wants to go back or cemetery..! Cinematography delivered in every aspect to enrich the visual and nothing in frame felt out of place. As a viewer I totally went back in time. Not sure how production team pulled it, automobiles, house, structures, lanes, lights, shades etc.. literary placed you in the story. It is one thing to imagine a womb of goddess as part of your story but creating it on screen to make it look convincing and then the real event that happens in it is at another level. With many such elements, the movie Tumbbad, is must watch in theatre. I missed it during first release but surely headed straight to the theatre this time. Hope it releases again as it will never get out dated.
