This book holds up to be one of the most interesting look into the warriors series. A breath of fresh air from the normal formula used in the warrior cats universe. It follows the protagonist, Gray wing along his journey to find a new home since his tribe is falling short on prey and many cats are dying of starvation. Mind you that this is a prequel to the first series of warriors cats, the prophecies begin, and it’s an excellent one at that with good story telling and world building, it makes sure it sets a good pace and they don’t spend long on one thing.
Though the book does have its own faults. I’d say the story starts out strong but you begin to see it start to fail to have an interesting plot.
Though it quickly picks itself up when it gets bland and it welcomes new ideas to characters to keep the story fresh.
So what happens in the story? Well Gray wing, just as I said before, he is reluctant to follow along the group of cats who are travelling to their new home due to his family and memories. But his brother, Jagged peak, sneaks away to follow the group of cats when they leave and he is just a kit so Gray wing follows along, promising to keep his little brother safe.
They catch up with the group after a series of dangerous events and they soon find a forest flourishing with prey. They have disagreements after some time and Clear sky, Gray wing and Jagged peaks brother decides he wants to live among the trees.
Of course others want to to and this is the first time the group splits up. They end up agreeing without any disputes and they live in two groups now.
But Clear sky begins to get delusional and power hungry and sets boundaries to mark his territory out of fear of starvation after he lost so many to it.
They make his character build up more and more, but at the end of the book he gets worse once he rejects one of his own kits out of grief.
So the kit is forced to live with Gray wing.
The story ends with not much of a conclusion, making the reader curious about what happens next.
And of course, I am reading the second book of the series and i will review that later.
