I cannot stress enough how amazing this show is! I’ll be the first to admit, I was skeptical at first. I thought it would be one of those boring shows that just regurgitates the Gospels in a flat, disconnected way. BUT NO! The show has so much depth to it. The creators of the show have exercised their artistic license by creating personalities for each character and focusing on how they encounter Jesus personally. Not everything portrayed in the show happens directly in the Bible, but that’s okay because they have to fill in the gaps in order to convey the depth of Jesus’ relationships with His followers and ultimately with all of us. Besides, the Gospel of John concludes with, “There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.” (Jn 21:25) That alone explains that the lives of Jesus and His disciples contained much more than what was recorded in the Bible. The Chosen does an excellent job of conveying what their lives might’ve been like. Trust me, it’s not declaring to be some kind of inspired doctrine. It just helps portray the humanity of Christ. Cause after all, Jesus was both God and man. All too often we only see Jesus in His divinity, but this show helps show the combination of His divinity AND humanity. Would highly recommend! It really helped me to see the depth of the Gospels and consider what it would be like to be in the disciples’ shoes so to speak. :)
