I haven't finished the book yet, but I thought I should give my opinion anyway, for those who are curious and want to read it!
So first: little heads up,this book has a lot of politics and it is for older audience's,it talks about sex and mentions of war.
Now,as for my own opinion...I don't love it nearly as much as I thought I would.
It's about a nonbinary painter,Jebi, after their country has been invaded by the Razin and has become filled with automata(robots). After ending up jobless and in the streets, they're offered a position from the ministry of Armour, involving a large war engine, mechanical dragon named Arazi.
I bought this book for two reasons: The main one being the cover and the other one being the description on the back.
The reason I don't really like it has to do with the writing style.
I find it boring at times and it's hard for me to figure out exactly what's going on sometimes. Not to mention Arazi isn't nearly as interesting as I was expecting. The idea of her character is already exciting,of course (Mechanical. Dragon. Who wouldn't want to read about that!),and I was expecting something fierce, bold, scary! A beautiful, yet terrifying, chained up beast forced to be a weapon but who's only real desire is to be free.
And that didn't happen.
She's still cool, but not as cool as she could be.
In general, the book is way too calm, even when talking about war and revolution.
I guess I just feel like this book has a lot of potential,a cool and interesting plot, but isn't executing it properly.
It has it's up's and down's but the down's definitely win.
Edit: Finished the book. Mixed feelings but my arguments still stand ๐
