I've watched both seasons of this show and I love it. I'm an American and I've been to Paris where I had both bad and good experiences with the way I was treated by the French, waiters in particular. I definitely felt like a fish out of water but I tried to speak a bit of French and chided my friends for saying Thank You when it was so easy to just say Merci! I can relate to how Emily felt when she first arrived and tried to adjust to a new country and environment and how she was treated and condescended to.
There has been a lot of criticism of how characters of different nationalities are portrayed in the show, particularly the French and Ukrainian, but all of the characters--the French, British, Ukrainian, American, Korean--they are all portrayed as caricatures of their nationalities. No one is exempt. Even Emily is a bit of a caricature of an American in Paris. So no one should be offended.
This is a sweet, delightful, romantic show. So, sit back and enjoy the show and scenery and look forward to season 3!
