My feeling is that this a complex film with sophisticated character development and deep issues slowly being brought to the surface. I felt the kidnapping was simply a "Mcguffin" to move the story along. Forgetting about how good or not this film is as a crime thriller, I saw it more as a family drama. The run time is long, and it is a bit of an endurance test, but in the end its a wonderfully made film.

This is really not a film for dummies that sit around waiting for the next big Marvel movie. This is a very deep, intellectual film that many will find hard to understand so ro help Ill explain it. ***** spoilers ahead***** Faraday is the poltergeist. Or better stated the negative energy haunting the house comes from him, from his rage and frustration starting when his mother humiliated him in front of Suki continued with Rod and Charlotte Rampling constantly berating him, then Caroline completely destroying him rejecting his sexual advances and marriage proposal. The little stranger is Faraday. Suki is simply a red herring. ***** end of spoilers ***** Having said that while this is a good film it's not quite great. Didn't really build the suspense much. Failed to evoke much fear. Ended up being a bit of an endurance test for a mininal level of payoff.

This film ultimately is about a breakup. It takes a woman through the steps as she begins as an emotionally broken person, dependent on her boyfriend for emotional suppprt he just cannot supply, and eventually becomes a queen, highly revered. In the process she finally breaks free from her emotionally distant boyfriend. It is all told through the lens of folk horror. The folk horror aspect derives mainly from Wicker Man but also borrows heavily from Heredity. I did not view this as a horror film, more like a tragic opera. There's a lot to unpack here. A lot of psychology and a lot of symbolism. A very well made film worth the effort to try to understand. Enjoy.

A really fun movie that is tense and gory enough.

A very tense film with very touching moments and a well done ending. Mads Mikkelsen is nothing short of fantastic. This movie bears viewing. It is exciting in spots, but mainly it is about one man's amazing perseverance and love of another human to the point of sacrificing everything .

This is an extremely sophisticated film for people who appreciate that kind of film. It is not a MCU or Blumhouse type crowd pleaser. My personal feelings are that this was one of the better scifi themed films in recent years. Robert Pattinson is amazing. The story is amazing and the ending is great. I have been thinking about this film for days and cannot wait to see it again. There is so much to sift through.
