It started good, which made its ending 100x more annoying. The ending the author hinted towards would have been awesome to explore! Instead, the twist made the whole first 70% of the book make no sense. Literally, naming the book "Never Lie" is the most hypocritical thing she could have done, since the author lied about the main character's actions and thoughts for over the first half of the book. And then, she murders the only decent person in the entire cast of twisted characters like its some kind of ending joke?
โฆLook, I like murder mysteries, and I like plot twists, and I don't mind reading about murderous psychos. But somehow, this crossed a line. Feeling completely and utterly lied to as a reader, and watching evil win with zero consequences. I don't usually give bad reviews. But this book left me with a bitter taste in my mouth that I haven't shaken for hours.
So, if you want to leave irritated, then read it. Maybe the ending won't bug you like it did me. But despite the author's writing skills, her protagonist's inconsistencies, misleading emotions and thoughts, and the heartless murder of the only person worth rooting for, just makes me wish I'd left this book untouched on the shelf (as untouched as 'The Shining' should have been, but that's a plot hole/spoiler to discuss another time).
