We watched it last night and we loved it. There wasnโt a gay character that I could point out. Iโm very sensitive to the gay drops too. There was a boy at the boys band concert but he wasnโt the only one and I donโt think that means he is gay. At first I was worried that one of the friends was gay but then I realized she was just a darling little awkward 13 year old girl. It would maybe make me more uncomfortable if my culture was Asian and I was very strict about our family culture. However, Iโm pretty sure an Asian helped write it. In fact it was an all women group that worked on it. I would say that itโs more for 12 year old girls. It does talk about pads. The 13 year old starts by talking about how she does whatever she wants and then she ends up being super respect to her parents. Itโs really more about learning how to handle your new emotions through puberty, which I appreciated. Itโs definitely not your typical Disney and while my boys where fine watching it, if they understood anything about periods, they would probably not want to watch it . I thought it was actually a very beautiful way to bring up the hardships of turning into a woman and that itโs alllll good in the end. It also showed the importance of having quality friends. Yes it did show a growing a part of mother and daughter but it showed them fixing their relationship and loving each other regardless. I would probably watch it again with My daughter when she starts her period, just as a conversation starter about the changes of your body. Of course this is just my opinion.
