In a list of funniest movies ever made this is darn near the top. The Coens are certainly in the league of Brooks, Zuckers, Python and so many more of the great classic comedy writers/directors.
Plenty of slapstick but so much more. The cast is pure perfection with everyone at their best. The dialog consists of sophisticated โtrailer talkโ and is delivered effortlessly. The pace of the movie is brisk but consistent...fantastic editing and directing. There are too many great scenes...singling one out is just not possible. I live in the town this movie was filmed in. Driving down certain streets or past certain landmarks still generates a chuckle...which I end up explaining to anyone in the car with me.
The best comedies are often told around a tragic story and that is what pulls everything together. The sincerity of the dialog and brilliant acting at the end still get me choked up.
If you knew nothing about this movie and were just told the cast, it would be a no brainer to watch. Cage and Hunter reel you in with the story and then the supporting cast bring their elements to the table...and then thereโs the music score...itโs a slam dunk!
Watch it ASAP!
