Innocent, Brave, and Feminine
2020's film Mulan starring Yifei Liu is not better than the 1998 animated film. This year's version is outstanding on its own right. Obviously, the homogenous cast and the story alluding to China's pride is generally an issue with the supposed wide theatrical release of the film as the pandemic and the blaming game made it untimely. The movie may not be as grand as the animated one, but it is still a fantastic and emotional experience for epic movie loving audience. Yifei Liu and the rest of the actors have charming chemistry in perfect resonance with the vibe of the original cartoon characters. It is a drama action film with just a speck of a magic that doesn't really spoil the impact. Just as you'd sing the 1998 pop soundtrack at the mere thought of the animated film, you'd also sing the 2020 ost "Loyal, Brave and True." In fact you can't stop singing or humming on the song. The impact of the innocent, brave and feminine portrayal of Hua Mulan by actress Yifei Liu makes a lasting impression after watching the movie, you'd think the nearly 2-hour epic is short. It just rubs on you. Absolutely worth a part 2.
