What this movie seems to lack is a heartbeat. All of the actors move from scene to scene reciting their respective lines. It’s as if they were all afraid to let go and really give these great characters a life. Too bad.

I think I blocked out the fact that Renee Zellweger won Oscar for her portrayal of Judy Garland. I watched the movie a year ago and then again a few hours ago. Both times found myself rolling my eyes because of Ms Zellweger’s performance. Obviously some folks thought she captured Judy Garland’s persona but for me, she was Renee Zellweger as Renee Zellweger dressed up as the ultra talented Judy Garland. The competition must have been lame that year.

I am a big fan of Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton and I think they each do a good job in their respective parts. It’s not a great film, but there are enough fun moments to make it worth watching.
