One of the best shows ever made but certainly seems to be polarizing.
Seems a bit of a litmus on people willing to engage with their own emotions as each episode does a stellar job at provoking the emotions surrounding the topic at hand which is an amazing combo of long lasting issues of male rage meets our uk cultural climate right now.
I think the show does a great job at not just demonizing the boy and his father, which again I feel leads to some confused audience members. A great deal is shown in depth but a great deal is also left for the audience to piece together, projecting their own ideas and prejudices to fill the gaps.
Some of the best acting I have seen in a long time.
My only critique will be the misunderstanding of the internet topics mentioned but thankfully they are touched so lightly that they get a pass from me (a chronically online person). For example there is a plea from one of the children trying to explain these topics but the adult in the situation misunderstands constantly and jumps to conclusions ignoring what the youth is trying to say which I think will do a good job at helping parents start that conversation with their children.
The one shot filming is not a gimmick. The pressure of what seems like a continuous scene creates tension setting the ground work to hit you with the gut punches out of now where even when you're expecting it.
I want to write a million more words but I will seal this off with: I believe this show perfectly captures a powerful aspect of the male experience right now in a way that sparks a long overdue conversation.
