It didn't build off the mastery of the first Joker, in my opinion. The first Joker made you connect with The Joker, it created a buy-in into his pain, trauma, hurt and anger. It made you reason with the protagonist. This didn't go in that direction at all. Still had gems. I enjoyed the love story theme but I didn't connect with it the way I hoped. I'm a huge Batman fan...watched the cartoon series after school on local TV as a teen. The first Joker had me looking at the Wayne family as dirtbags. Made me questioned my loyalty to Batman. This did not do the same. I'll leave it at that without spoiling it for others.
