This show literally blew my mind! It really highlights the struggles of being female as well as the beauty and the magic.
The women she chose to write about are so perfectly imperfect. Yet they are ordinary women, in extraordinary circumstances. I laughed, I cried, I got angry and happy. It made me feel so many things. But most of all it made be proud to be a woman. To be an ordinary woman just like them who has the ability to make my life extraordinary. It gave me hope. Hope that change is coming. Women are changing the world. As they always do and always have -but no longer quietly.
I feel deep affection for all the women portrayed and the author herself. Although, she IS a bit crazy. Maggie, Lina, Sloane and Gia remind us that as women we are all connected. And that connection is what fortifies us and gives us strength. The more women come together despite their differences, the better we will leave this world for our children and grandchildren.
Fair warning there is a lot of nudity and sex but I loved how they sexualized the men and showed their dicks. It's only fair. They're always showing breasts and legs and booties but rarely dicks.
***Stop here if you don't want any spoilers***
Gia (the author) is a fucking legend for writing this book! I hope that the teacher's life is ruined now that this has come out. The fact he was found not guilty is the most egregious and disgusting part of the entire series. Reinstated as teacher of the year after having a sexual relationship with a 16yo girl (this is a true story based on a book) is just one of a billion tragedies just like it.
Every woman, young, old and everything in between should see this series. An absolutely beautiful yet tragic display of the female experience.
To the women in the reviews who are judging these women and basically calling them trash, how dare you? I bet if we put all your dirty secrets in a book, you'd look like an asshole at moments too. These are REAL women, REAL people. If you can't see the beauty in them, good luck finding any of your own.
As long as you place yourself above other women, you're handing the keys of the kingdom to the patriarchy. You're immature and prudish. You're ugly inside. Far uglier than any of these characters. And I bet you call yourself a "Christian."
