This is not about rating Majili movie or a review of the movie. As the name says it all โMajiliโ is a journey. A journey through love, pain, indifference, wait and hope.
The character of Sravani is what caught my attention. In the police station when she says that she wants a โcompromiseโ and not a โcaseโ she is shown as a very practical person.
Not wanting her husband to stay behind bars for a day shows her love. The way she takes up the family responsibility accepting the alcoholic husband is commendable.
When in college her father praises her hard work and says that some day she would get a job in World Bank.
What I failed to understand is, why such a character is shown as a clerk in railways. Has her marriage with Poorna compromised her career?
Sravani is shown taking Poorna's father to the hospital. Did she decide to marry him out of concern after the emotional outburst of Poorna's father? Or was it love?
Deciding to marry an alcoholic and defending her decision showed her as a person willing to go the extra mile for her love, though it might sound foolish to some.
When she tells him that he can drink at home to avoid the humiliation she looked like she is trying to prevent the situation from worsening.
In office when she tells her colleague not to talk about personal stuff, she can be seen clearly drawing boundaries. It clearly shows her professional side.
When Poorna is leaving for Dehradun she looks happy. She has hope that things might change.
She accepts Meera immediately. The unconditional love she has for Poorna is clearly shown.
All the sacrifices she makes without any complains stand for the selfless love towards him. She waits for years before she decides to take a transfer.
Sravani is the bread earner along with her father in law. She is portrayed as a patient woman who willingly entered into marriage and endured the pain inflicted on her.
In the conclusion when she tells Poorna that she did not โ bearโ him all those years but โlovedโ him it showed her loyalty.
One thing that pushed her to take the transfer is her assumption that his transformation is not true.
What one has to realize that caring for such a person, living with an indifferent spouse are exhausting. The unpredictable behaviors at times compel the caregivers to think again.
