DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER FIRST. (explained below)
A QUICK NOTE BEFORE THE REVIEW:
I don't recommend watching the trailer before watching the movie. I think it gives away too much. It doesn't spoil anything, but in my opinion, for the best possible initial viewing, you should go into the movie with no preconceived notions and as little context as possible so you can get the full experience. If you've seen the trailer already and are planning to see it, it's not like it's going to ruin your experience or anything; I just recommend that you don't watch another trailer before seeing the film for the best possible experience.
REVIEW:
I've never seen a movie before that was instantly my favorite movie. I think this is the closest I've ever seen to a perfect movie. The pacing is really well done, so it doesn't feel that long even with the 2-hour runtime, and I never felt bored the entire time.
The editing is phenomenal, the acting is great, the costumes are incredible, and it's a really unique concept with fantastic execution. Not a spoiler, but the fact that the directors were able to elicit strong emotions from an audience with just rocks and on-screen text at one point in the movie with no audible dialogue really speaks to the strength of their storytelling abilities.
I recommend this movie to everyone I talk to, and I've seen it 7 times. If you haven't seen it, you need to. It's incredible. There's a lot going on, so you need to pay attention, and it's a bit confusing sometimes, but when I left the theater, I had no questions. Everything got explained or resolved, which just goes to show how incredible of a job the directors did with this movie.
LASTLY, A WORD OF ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET:
Don't try to "figure it out." If you're watching the movie and you get confused or have a question about something, don't think about it or try to find an answer because you'll only miss other stuff in the movie and become more confused. Like I said earlier: it does a great job of explaining everything and tying up loose ends, so if you pay attention, you shouldn't have any questions at the end.
