I was sceptical initially simply on the basis that, despite Matt Johnson basically being a total genius, nothing could be as good as many of the older tracks or albums (Beyond Love, August and September, Kingdom of Rain and Uncertain Smile being a few personal favourites). Didn’t think it could be as good either lyrically, musically in terms of guitars, or overall catchiness etc. Or thought that it might be a bit ‘samey’. However been listening on and off since album released and definitely LOVE IT even if I don’t yet know all the songs. Cognitive Dissent resonates, and love the opening few chords. SOOOOOOO excited to see them on tour again, 31 years after I saw them for the first and only time to date (Leeds Town and Country Club, 1992 for info). Sadly lack of touring and having kids rather hampered seeing them again before now.
