I LOVED Just Cause 3. Finally got around to trying out JC4 today and man...it kind of sucks.
In just 5 hours of gameplay I have run into technical issues like enemies just not showing up during missions or buildings losing their collision detection so you can just walk right through them.
Some of the missions seem impossibly difficult. Like the Wind Nest mission that just goes on and on. "Find the breakers and flip them while everybody tries to kill you". Then "Retrieve the drive but oh wait you actually have to hurry up and install it in this thing within 2 minutes or you fail". Then "Okay now defend the transmitter while it takes FOREVER to upload and everybody is trying to destroy it". THEN "Oh no they're using jammers so go find those and destroy them".
Besides that, the graphics look pretty bad at times. Like characters with low resolution patches on their gear. Sometimes I can't tell if the character models are supposed to be cel shaded or something because they just look weird. The environment looks good at least.
The story seems like it's just there so they can say there was a story. Maybe I'm not far enough to really judge it but I haven't seen a single moment that was interesting or funny or emotional or cool.
I will say that the gameplay has some fun mechanics. Grappling hook shenanigans can be really fun. Blowing things up is fun. Honestly, if you ignore the missions and just play around in the big ass sandbox, you'll probably have a good time.
I don't think I'll be finishing this one. I know I should just "get gud" but I believe this is the 15th game I started this year and it's the only one that has frustrated me this much, especially this early. Maybe I'll go back and play Just Cause 3 again instead.
