It saddens me that CTV would allow such an apparently uninformed group of young women to influence others of all ages. I watched a few moments of the show today and was apalled that the group and their guest actually compared loyalty to a sports team to loyalty to a nation! First of all, when someone is entertained by sports, it is just that...entertainment! Tickets to entertainment are optional and purchased by the individual. Cheer for whomever you choose..it's your personal $$. Infrastructure (roads, schools, utilities etc), our national defence, police services /national & local security, and social benefits such as health care, CPP, EI etc. are paid for by Canadian tax payers for the benefit of all of us in Canada NOT for the benefit of an individual to abuse ie fraud/ abuse of things like health care (that has only been with us since the 1950s) or claiming of other benefits not entitled to! OR take for the benefit of another country as the individual sees fit...Those are national decisions NOT personal ones. Millions of people in Canada have fought for and continue to work extremely hard to contine building on a strong foundation of growth, justice and inclusiveness. Canada First NOT Diaspora or individual first. We have always celebrated and learned from each other ie Greek festival, Little Italy, East Indian & Chinese festivals along with First Nations BUT at our very core WE were strong because we were Canada alongside our First Nations...singing Oh Canada and waving our Canadian Flag proudly together daily within our schools +++...building on our Canadian foundation...First Nations alongside British and French = 2 official languages + First Nations languages...Canada is a name dirived from our First Nations vocabulary...look it up...Being a Commonwealth country was and is a source of pride for all of us...Being a member of Nato, NORAD etc., refers to Canada NOT a diaspora or individual...We should be educating our youth on the importance of ethics, self discipline and honesty. "Free does NOT = free to do and say whatever you want! ..What are we as individuals doing to contribute to Canada's collective strength?? Why is there an entire generation being shown such dependance on government?? "Government is voted in or out via the Democratic election process" We are NOT a communist or socialist country...We pay taxes with the understanding those taxes will be used for the collective good by those very politicians we vote in to represent US...NOT just special interest groups. Multiculturalism has been and continues to be an important aspect of who we as a nation are...That's not new...The very fabric of Canada has always been inclusive and respectful of each other...I don't know what happened during the past 20+ years to make people forget that...To put Canada First...contribute, learn real Canadian history and celebrate it together...just like we do on Canada Day each year...Maybe CTV could help rewrite or cancel this show and ensure the Canadian Flag is flown in each school classroom, in the process.. I would suggest we begin with celebrating and respecting our diversity BUT always keep Canada first top of mind...Our tax dollars are there for all of us to benefit when required...not just take because we want more $$ or think we are entitled! Be considerate of others and label shows like 'The Social' comedy entertainment...maybe include a CTV /Bell Media disclaimer?
