Beautifully timed sarcasm, funny one liners from Edmund Blackadder, the biggest cowardly figure in the British Monarchy & Military history, who always has a plausible excuse to get himself out of trouble & a firing squad execution for cowardice after his "cunning plan failures", with General Melchet, the crazy, possibly senile of all English Generals in WW1. with his Adjutant Capt. Darling, played by the excellent Tim McInnery, (Lord Percy in earlier series) whose sole objective is to "Shop" Blackadder in any way he can.
On the frontline is Private Baldrick (full name, Sod-off Baldrick), (Tony Robinson) butler to Blackadder and Lt. Percy, (Hugh Lawrie) probably the thickest Officer to ever serve in the entire British Army to do the biddings of Capt. Edmund Blackadder. You'll have to watch the entire episodes across all series to appreciate the humour involved along with the poignant ending, which is imo a tribute to all those who fell in that awful war. My Grandfather & Great Uncle fought in both WW1/2. I consider myself to be lucky for all those who sacrificed themselves for our freedom. May those who died, on both sides RiP
