I saw this when first out. It made an impression that still stands and just today I referenced it in a comment to a friend about a tryst in Rio and it could be like Same time next year. She's happily married in Alaska and I in New Hampster but the comment was just our normal flirt over the last 7 or 8 years. So the movie is that good to be with you that long.

The original full CGI in motion movie. Many things done were the first-ever. So much code it took multiple top of the line Cray Supercomputers to run the scenes done in full CGI. The first movie to blend CGI into filmed action with actors.

The original over the top Not science fiction but true Heinlein science futurism. The future based on extending known technologies and material and technology to a logical future state based on history of developments in the field and others. Most folks have never heard of it but it spawned all the science fiction and futurism films of robotic and compute takeovers. To any of us who were embedded for our livelihood in the world of digital process control machines and the design and maintenance of analogue proportional control computers like autopiloting at sea and even missile control, this was a wake-up call. When I was teaching electronics and computer technology and programming at the NH Technical Institution in the early to mid-1980s I made all my student see the film. Another film was the first usage of CGI using the massive computing power of multiple Cray Supercomputers. That film is "The Last Starfighter". The first Starwars films were done with filming tricks and models in custom artificial environments.
