The writing is predictable and just meh, and the characters are so one-dimensional it’s actually distracting. I really wanted to like this book because the topic is important and the stories of women serving in Vietnam deserve to be told. But they deserve more nuance, fewer tropes and stereotypes, and just more depth in general. I’m honestly struggling to understand why so many people love it so much. I read a lot - history, narrative non-fiction, historical fiction, and a lot of other genres, and I think this author just isn’t for me and I can accept that. But I wanted to write my thoughts in case they can help someone else like myself to not waste their time with this one.
