I'll start this review by saying, there are really 3 types of Marvel fans.
1.) There are the ones who are dragged to the theater against their will only to be majorly confused by all of the details and references.
2.) There are those who have seen (and mastered) all the movies, but haven't laid hands on a Marvel comic...well...ever.
3.) Finally, there are the die-hard fans who can probably recite every single line of every single movie and comic verbatim (super fans!).
I would consider myself a #2, so I was expecting a pretty easily understandable yet highly enjoyable film. I attended the movie with a few friends, two #3's and one #1. Honestly, the entire time I was lost. I tried to understand for the first 30 minutes, but, as it was almost completely made up of flashbacks, it was pretty difficult. As soon as the credits began to roll, I turned to my friends, expecting them to have the same confused look on their faces as I had on mine, but, somehow, they didn't. Everyone but the #1 friend completely understood it with no problem, so I asked them why I was so lost throughout the movie. Apparently, they said that the movie was mainly made for those who had previously read the Captain Marvel comics, which I had not. They suggested I read the comics, then re-watch the movie. That being said, I was highly disappointed. In my opinion, you shouldn't have to read the comics to understand a Marvel movie. If you are familiar with the MCU, then being able to comprehend the movies should be easy. Because of these reasons, I did not enjoy the movie, but I'm sure that if you did your homework before going to the theater, it would be a more pleasurable experience.
