I was recommended to watch a coming-of-age series ‘Heartstopper’ on Netflix by a cute guy, so here is my much-awaited review.
Netflix released its series ‘Heartstopper’ on 22nd April 2022, based on the original graphic novel with the same name by Alice Oseman (should have read the comic first).
We get to explore the gay world through the eyes of Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), an all-rounder school ‘nerd’ (something that fulfils the stereotype of a gay bottom).
Then we have his handsome as ever rugby player crush, Ben Hope (Sebastian Croft), a bisexual (let’s say bicurious?), with whom I was hoping to see more racy scenes until he forced himself on Charlie when he got to know he was cheating on him with a girl (to cover his homosexual identity at school).
Fortunately, this series does not end with a pathetic story of romantic deception like we got to see in ‘Cobalt Blue’ on the same platform. There is a blooming romance between another school jock, Nick Nelson (Kit Connor). He is cute, kind, and empathetic (and we knew he’s gay because straight guys like him are remarkably rare on this planet).
There are supporting characters and subplots like the long-distance relationship between Tao Xu and Elle Argent (a trans girl); and Tara Jones and her lesbian girlfriend, Darcy Olsson.
After a long time, it will be a refreshing series to watch in bed with your boyfriend, cuddling and snuggling under a blanket (even in summers, yes), and which could probably lead to a ‘Netflix and chill’ session. Who knows?
