I found the book in a bookstore. I read what was written on the back of the book. It sounded like an interesting premise. I got it and started to read. And yes, it is well written. It is just a little bit too much "50 Shades of Grey" in it. And referencing all the brands - that is so "American Psycho". But of course you might say the story is told this way because this is who the main character of the book is who is telling the story from her perspective. And yeah, I don't have a problem with that.
The problem is that the love interested Hayes is more mature with his 20/21 years much more mature than the main character Solène. To me she comes off as Bella from "Twilight".
And the ending... It is like "Dear John" all over again. And this time there is not really a reason for going that way because of the love interest. He knows what he wants and he is willing to go all the way and he is mature (and he has the means to give them a care-free life). He acts in character. And the main character in a way doesn't. She presents herself to be this divorced, independent, well-educated, french-spirited woman with a daughter. And as said before: She ends up as a Bella.
Maybe the writer should have written the book she hints at in her Acknowledgements. She writes there she joked to her husband about leaving him for a guy from a boy band. Her husband answered that that would make a great book. Maybe the original premise would have worked better (in the case of no 'HEA' for Solène & Hayes).
