In one word….Magnificent! I’ve been a Godzilla fan since childhood and seen all the Toho and American made films. I can say without a doubt Godzilla Minus One is a masterpiece of filmmaking. Seeing it from the viewpoint of the human survivors of the monster’s devastation and not have it be told in an almost comic book style but a deep, emotionally heavy tone with themes of the psychological trauma of war, regret and even family and inner redemption set against the backdrop of a rampaging monster wreaking havoc is powerful. There were moments that brought a tear to my eye. Amazing storytelling. Toho knows how to make a great Godzilla film but most importantly, give us three dimensional characters in it as well. I’m definitely seeing it again. This is perhaps the best film of 2023. I give it a 10/10.
