This film is incredible. I was raised on it and it honestly changed my view on the world. People that don't rate this movie highly don't understand the incredible messages hidden in this film.
When skimming through the lower star reviews I noticed that many people were saying that the movie "isn't for kids" and "it was nothing like the book". No it's not. I agree. But what these people don't understand is that the movie is BASED on the book. It is not an adaptation. Being based on something and being an adaptation are two different things. Wes Anderson took the book by Roald Dalh and made it his own. He added factors that made the story more mature so that adults could enjoy the film. He also added aspects that he thought would make the story better.
Fantastic Mr Fox has many themes scattered throughout the film however the one that stood out to me most was the conveyance of difference. Mr Fox's son, Ash, is the main contributor to this theme. he doesn't really fit in with everyone else. His father makes him out to be a disappointment and Ash's counsin, Kristofferson, isn't exactly helping. This wanting and needing to be perfect reinforces his difference. As the film goes on, Ash embraces his difference and becomes happier because of it. This is resembled in the last scene in which everyone has an apple juice box and he is the only one with a grape juice box and he doesn't mind. He's different. Ash taught me that it's okay to be different.
This movie has helped me through so much and my love for it can't be described in words. Fantastic Mr Fox is an incredible film and people who can't see that need to rewatch it. Look for those hidden messages.
