It was beautifully filmed and acted, such a good depiction of the struggles of the Italian immigrants and the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. Undeniably she had a fierce determination to care for people, especially children. What was missing was the spiritual side of her life as a nun. It never showed her praying or seeking God’s guidance, there was a secular bent to her characterization, especially as a woman. Of particular interest is that it was released this month. She was Canonized into sainthood because of the miracles of healing attributed to her, not because she was a fierce determined woman. They left out a very significant side of her life, she was a woman of immense faith, that’s where her strength came from.
