So many things that are wrong with this show. The ONLY pro I think to this is the scenery of it all, which matches Peter Jackson's depictions very well. However, if you're looking for this to be a "Lord of The Rings" show with the universe Tolkien created - DON'T. It is no where NEAR the show it should be. It's amazing how it even has as high of a rating as it does. The show strays from everything we know as a Lord of The Rings and Tolkien fanbase. While a very small amount of the show is redeeming, the vast majority of it is overwhelmingly disappointing. The depiction of the Elves feels very bland - it feels as if they just stuck Elf ears on some actors and called it a day. I'm not sure if I'm the only one from what I've been reading, but I have a MASSIVE problem with the depictions of the major characters, Galadriel, Elrond, and Sauron. These are characters that we know from the movie trilogies as well as the books. In my opinion, the creators took these characters and stripped them down to a FRACTION of what they should be...
ELROND: While some qualities of Elrond were redeeming, there was a part of me that felt he wasn't the Elrond we all know and love. First of all, you could've at least made him look SOMEWHAT the same. I'm not saying go around and find a younger Hugo Weaving - but, honestly, this Elrond looks NOTHING like how he should. Elrond has long dark hair in the movies. In this, he has short, curly, dirty blonde hair. What happened there?
GALADRIEL: While they managed to keep this one's look similar, she is the complete opposite of how she was in the LOTR trilogy. So, don't expect to see your favorite Elven badass make a comeback. While she's a badass in this show, it's not the "Galadriel" that most fans would be looking for. Something about her just feels so off (to me at least).
((SPOILER))
SAURON: One of the BIGGEST disappointments, in my honest opinion. Sauron is supposed to be the deceiver, the liar, the manipulator. He's also supposed to be dangerously cunning. However, in this, he reveals himself to Galadriel, offering to make her his "dark queen". If he is supposed to be Sauron, shouldn't he know after spending all this time with Galadriel that she wants to end him with every fiber in her being? Apparently not! Instead of trying to deceive her, he reveals himself to her and asks her to rule beside him - excuse me... What? Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but shouldn't he just kill her? If she is as mighty and powerful, shouldn't that be the play? Honestly, if you ask me, they SOMEHOW managed to turn Sauron into this "evil simplord" for Galadriel, when he's supposed to be the complete opposite.
With all of that being said, I do not wish to see another season of this show. I think it'll be a waste of everyone's time, and it'll disappoint Tolkien fans even further.
