Filmed in New Orleans and surrounding areas the movie is a fictionalized account of an actual area of New Orleans early 1900's closed by the Department of the Navy 1917-18.The story revolves around a one time local Photographer Earnest J. Bellocq and his "personal images" of the local prostitutes. This was Ms. Shields first starring role and the Director was well known for approaching 'delicate' subjects.
