Walking Tall was the first movie I watched at a drive-in theatre and I have been interested in the true story ever since. As some people are now hell-bent on destroying Buford Pusser's legacy, this book was a refreshing reminder that although Sheriff Pusser wasnt a perfect man, he did actually "Walk Tall" against the corruption at the state line. I've read the books and watched the movies, but this book was different. It tells the story from the other side and doesn't dote on, or defame Buford Pusser. Much of Mrs Hathcocks story took place before Pusser's story really began. It shows the human view of a complex and twisted world of the criminals the Sheriff would eventually oppose. The book allowed me to get to know these people because it was a story about them. The book seemed well written, researched, and believable and I recommend it as a solid glimpse into an interesting time in American history.
