I was very shocked and disappointed in the lack of the high level of special effects in the make up and the lack luster of the sculpting of the different characters faces and heads. To make matters even worse was the VFX/ CGI done at such a high level of complexity and creativity being used with the lack of filming and directing coupled with the low levels executed in the special effects/ make up made it really hard to watch.
Star Trek and it's franchises have always shown an excellence in every aspect of its filming and editing and I suppose with alot more of the Star Trek franchise fans were expecting exactly that when we began to watch this movie just to find exactly what I described earlier in this review.
In other words this movie was lacking in its planning and sculpting of the different characters make up appliances. The principal photography was incredibly poor in direction and filming, which led to the editing being choppy from scene to scene. I really think it boils down to the directors ability to perform on the levels that all who follow and love the Star Trek franchise.
I really tried to watch the whole film and made it about 40% through it. If this is what we should expect from the leaders of the Star Trek franchise well maybe they should stop now and don't create anymore films and shows before they permanently tarnish what all of us have grown to love.
