I'm a huge MCU fan, having watched all previous 21 movies in the franchise multiple times, so I was eagerly waiting for Avengers Endgame. But I was left terribly disappointed after watching Endgame.
In spite of the more than 3-hour runtime, the story felt half-cooked. Time travel is the last resort of a desperate writer and the writers have completely massacred the story which is filled with huge plot-holes and continuity issues (that undermine what we have seen in the previous 21 movies). You don’t get a good movie with just popular characters, awesome CGI and an epic battle scene. Unless the story is cohesive and continuous, there will always be disgruntled viewers like me.
The issues I found in the movie and the questions I'm left with are as follows:
1) How did Thanos destroy the stones? The Power Stone can theoretically destroy the other 5 stones but how can the Power Stone be destroyed?
2) How did the Quantum Realm van get off from the roof in the mid-credits scene in Ant-Man & the Wasp to the garage? Nobody even looked inside the van, absurd!
3) Tweaking past Nebula’s consciousness can affect future Nebula’s consciousness but shooting & killing the past Nebula does not affect the future Nebula?
4) In spite of building up Capt. Marvel (CM) with her movie, she was there for only 10 minutes.
5) CM defends people of other planets that do not have people like the Avengers, yet she has not heard of Thanos & his snap. Only when Nick Fury, a person she met for a limited time 28 years ago paged her, she rushed to Earth.
6) CM can easily find the Benetar in the midst of the vast cosmos; she can travel at light speed & even show up at random during the epic fight scene but she cannot fly at the same speed to the Quantum Tunnel van with the Infinity Gauntlet.
7) After 5 years and with still more than 4 billion people on earth, the stadiums, metros etc are all empty as if nobody lives on earth.
8) The destruction of the characters of Thor and Hulk who were made to look stupid in this movie. Even after Natasha’s death, Hulk was not enraged. And Thor became a fat drunkard with no sense of responsibility for his people, the Asgardians.
9) Thanos' character changed from a self-righteous morally ambiguous villain to a generic, comical villain.
10) What was Ancient One doing with the Time Stone in New York sanctum since it was always kept under lock & key in Kamar Taj in Kathmandu?
11) Capt. America picks up Thor’s Mjolnir and shoots lightning from it. In Thor Ragnarok, Odin clearly explained Thor that the Mjolnir is just a vessel to channel Thor’s powers and the lightning comes from within himself.
12) In Thor Ragnarok, Brunhilde (Tessa Thompson’s character name which was never said in the movies. Valkyrie is just the name of her race) told Thor that she was the last of the Valkyries who had all been killed by Hela centuries earlier. And yet, all the dead Valkyries show up in the fight scene.
13) How did the past Thanos bring his entire army, his Sanctuary 2 and everyone else through the Quantum Realm portal with just 1 vial of Pym Particle?
14) How did Tony steal the Infinity Stones from Thanos' gauntlet to his gauntlet in the blink of an eye?
15) Hulk and Hawkeye held the Time Stone & the Soul Stone in their bare hands and nothing happened to them, contradicting Tivan's statement in GOTG that only beings of extraordinary strength can wield them.
16) Where did the Loki of 2012 disappear with the Tesseract?
17) The big 3 – Iron Man, Capt. America & Thor go to fight against Thanos without any strategy. Also Dr. Strange & Wong bring back every snapped Avenger and many more as if they had been informed of the coordinates.
18) How did Capt. America return the stones to their past timeline, especially the Reality Stone & the Soul Stone?
19) How did Captain America return to his own timeline as an old man? Shouldn't he have stayed behind in a separate timeline.
My rating: 6.5 of 10.
