Cleopatra was an Egyptian ruler of Macedonian descent, and the Egyptians are not a part of the black/white racial identity of Western culture. Though Egyptians have a variety of skin colors, they are a unified ethnic group that is in no way related to people of West-African descent. Even Nubians have more in common with the Egyptian/ Coptic ethnicity than with African-Americans. This "documentary" is offensive to us Egyptians as it is trying to steal our history. It is an attempt to rob us of our culture and history, which deserves to be respected. It is also offensive to West- Africans as it implicitly implies that they have no history worth speaking of and must resort to stealing other peoples' history. It is also offensive to all Africans as it brushes off the fact that Africa is the most ethnically and culturally diverse continent on earth and paints all Africans as one unified group. It is important to approach historical representations with sensitivity and accuracy. We should not erase or manipulate history to fit contemporary political or cultural agendas. Instead, we should celebrate diversity and promote cultural exchange while respecting the unique heritage of each community.
