A lot of money and work go into making an epic show, and shouldn't they be well used?
If House of the Dragon is to saved, all the script writers, director, casting director, and editor need to be replaced by those of GOT, and it needs better actors for some of the characters. It may be that the standard set by GOT is high, but it's more that most of them don't have a clue or have an ordinary talent, as will soon be evident.
The production values of House of the Dragon for set design, special effects, and costumes are good, excepting the dragons and generally in dark-cheerless lighting. The story in itself, going by the first two episodes, looks to be a good one. The rest is, dare I say it, not so good. Specifically, the script writing, dialog, the story development, directing, editing, and acting are mostly flat and ordinary. It has little of what one gets from the Game of Thrones. Within the first few episodes. I found that I cared about the story of GOT, and how real and well rounded that the characters felt. The development of the story and characters, the superior script writing with its great dialog, the way scenes were set up, and the direction and editing, were all first rate. I failed to see much of that in the House of the Dragon.
Yet, its association with "Game of Thrones" and George R. R. Martin, give it interest, hope, and high regard.
