Don’t get me wrong, I love cars. But never in my wildest dreams did I think I would love a show(or shows... Top Gear before it) as much as I love The Grand Tour. It’s not the concept that got me, it was the men involved. Clarkson is an absolute character, hilarious and a legend at narration. Hammond is quirky and intelligent and fun. And May is... well, he’s James May.
I have watched this show from the point we got the original Top Gear in the states, and then when I had the ability to stream years later, I went back and watched it from the beginning. Again... a show about cars, that is in fact so much more than that.
The specials are incredible and always have been. In fact, I think they are the best part of the show. I am so glad they are continuing with that.
I don’t pretend to know these men. More often than not, celebrities are disappointing when you find out who they really are, but I do believe in this case they display very accurate depictions of who they are. And in this world of political and social division, it just feels good to know that a far right, middle grounder and a radical left wing socialist could still be friends. Cheers from the US.
