The whole series is first rate. The scenery and characterization of the personalities that are in the book series by Anne Cleeves are well done, acted and viewed. The viewer, however, must understand that the books and tv series are two very separate entities. For instance, in the book series, Cassie (Jimmy Perez's "daughter") is only 6 years old at the start, not a teenager. The book stories take place at all times of the year and not only when the tv series can make the production happen. Most of the storylines and plots are very different. And, the character, Tosh, does not exist in the book series. I wish she did. That was a real improvement in the tv series. That being said, I would encourage Shetland fans to read the book series. You'll enjoy the read as much as the tv series. Maybe more! It is my opinion, that the finale of the book series is far, far better than Series 7 of the tv series. Perez does leave the "Force", but for a much, much better reason. Just for that reason alone, season 7 is the weakest and poorest of the lot. Although, Tosh's experience in 7 is well done and outstandingly acted. Too bad, so sad they ended the series this way.
