I’ve seen almost all of the versions, from 1983 with Andy Lau, 1995 with Louis Koo, 2006 with Huang Xiaoming and Crystal Liu, then this one. Overall, I can’t fault any of the acting, especially of the main actors - Michelle and Chen Xiao. However, this version is my least favourite mainly because of the script and directions. I think many scenes are over scripted, forcing the actors to look awkward as well as the scene ridiculous. Then there are some details that I think are lacking when there should have been more details. It is clear that the script writer and director put more emphasis on the ‘righteous sects and the older condor couple Jing Guo and Hoang Rong, therefore theirs and their children reckless selfish behaviour seem quite glossed over and forgiven, when they should have received more criticism for the hypocrisy. This show is worth a watch if you like the actors, as it is filled with many well known upcoming actors. Don’t watch it if you expect it to live up to the previous versions.
