I’m not usually a fantasy/science fiction fan but this book caught my interest and after a slow beginning I couldn’t put it down. The characters became engaging and you cared what happened to them. The environmental and socioeconomic backdrop added substance to the tale.

I loved reading this book. Towles’ use of expressions and vocabulary evoked a feeling of what the 1930’s might have been like. His characters navigate Manhattan on foot and in limos and bring us there with them. From flophouses to fancy hotels and cocktails we get a sense of the ups and downs of NYC. I couldn’t put the book down.
