Having attended a Catholic girls' school for all of my high school years, it all seemed so familiar. In that period, nuns and priests were revered and not questioned. For example, when I went to piano lessons as an eight-year old and Sister hit my hand hard if I played a wrong note, I ran home to tell my father. He told me to practice harder.
While none of the horrors depicted in the documentary took place in my school, the setting and the community's respect for the clergy was the same. We were just lucky that our chaplain was a kind, loving man.
I commend all those that were brave enough to speak up in this film. We can only hope that this will encourage others, police, church officials, to take heed. The tide has turned. It is no longer a silent majority.
