I’ve always loved the games produced by the Animal Crossing franchise. I’ve played a bit of most of the games and I have to say, this one isn’t my favourite.
Don’t get me wrong! I love that I can place furniture outside (finally!), and the terraforming is cool but I feel that it’s a little over powering...
I don’t really like that the villagers have no personality anymore... from playing on the game cube version and then this one after, I feel that even the personality they had from New Leaf was better than this version, and isn’t a game meant to improve as newer versions are made? I miss that they don’t just move out of you haven’t talked to them in a while cause it made me want to play the game and talk to the villagers I loved. And each “personality type” only has a bit of dialogue each and you see it repeat a lot and it gets boring. And what happened to the cranky villagers being rude to me and me having to talk to them for them to start to be nicer to me? I miss that.
I miss that u could do random tasks for the villagers, like from the original game cube version.
And I find that any sort of challenge or competition for the past Animal Crossing games, disappeared. Like the bug and fish tournaments, there isn’t even a thing at the end to get a winner anymore! And with the event for Toy Day, was really boring. In New Leaf, I had to actually know my villagers to know what to give them based off their interests and such. But this time, it took me all of 10 minutes to find my villagers and that was it! In New Leaf you would dress as Santa and they would think your Santa Clause and that was really fun to me.
I also was a little confused that the way you “win” essentially is when you get to 3 stars and K.K comes... I feel like you should have to get to 5 stars before you “win” cause after you get to 3 stars... you don’t have anything left to do really. Sure you are still trying to get to 5 stars but nothing happens! Even when I found all the fossils for the museum, and I got nothing for it. I finished and got to 5 stars in 3 months at most... and that’s from playing for maybe 10-20 minutes each day. I reseted my island because I had nothing left to do.
Even when I played New Leaf, I played that game almost every day for 20 ish minutes and I never completed it. It took my sister a few years to complete it and I think that’s how it should be. Not finish in less than a year and have nothing left to do...
I enjoy playing Animal Crossing and I hope you can find a way to give back the personality and freedom of the villagers, the little bit of competition and motivation to play and not miss events, and overall make the game a bit better!
