I like this movie. It's one of the classics. It uses Eli carrying around his book to deliver as a symbol of hope, and I can see past any religious specificity to appreciate that.
When I first watched this film in theaters, the old survivalist couple in their dilapidated house scared me, but now I find them endearing. (Was that blood tea?)
I decided to watch the film again in 2022 since it leaves HBO Max at the end of the month, and it was great to revisit. Denzel's FMA-based fight choreography is especially badass.
