***minor spoilers, gameplay on ps5*** A very bugged and lazy game. The story starts out with promise, but quickly devolves into a generic, boring story. Imagine making a story about crossing light years to a new planet, and all the possibilities that could entail. Now instead of doing something creative, you basically just draw parallels to the eradication of the native americans.
The gameplay itself is clunky as well. The cover system is standard for most third person shooters nowadays, although moving from cover to cover can be annoying at times. The gunplay doesn't feel all that great, especially when tracking moving targets. Enemy variety is severely lacking, which becomes even more disappointing when you reach later parts of the games. Those parts contain "new" enemies that are just reskins of previous enemies. This applies to both monsters and humanoid creatures. Also the bosses (at least through the campaign) are... lackluster. The game substitutes difficulty with massive health. It banks on you making a mistake while you spend 10-15 minutes dodging the same 3-4 attacks and unloading 1000s of rounds. Truly riveting.
Last thing that really drags this game down currently is the bugs. I know these tend to get patched later nowadays, but for a launch title its very annoying. Just a quick list of what I dealt with. Disconnecting frequently and not being able to reconnect. Random crashes. Crashes because I went to fast in a section. Skill bugs causing enemies to sometimes freeze in place (not by design). Enemies sometimes just not doing anything. Enemies not caring that you blew their friends head off right next to them. (Must have been the wind).
The only saving grace for this game is the abilities. Once you can setup your class and armour around what you want to do it feels genuinely rewarding to run around the battlefield like the god (altered) you are. If you can find 2 friends to build your classes around you can really ramp up the damage and synergy.
Overall the game just feels very generic and safe. Its basically just The Division on another planet. Fun if you just want to mindlessly shoot some generic baddies with your friends, but thats about all it has to offer. 4/10, would not recommend.
