I am one of Munjed Al Muderis' patients. I have not been contacted by him or anyone associated with him. I am a Bilateral Below Knee Amputee forced to live in a wheelchair for 6 years because of the failure of sockets. I had surgery to implant posts into both my stumps in October 2020. Since then I have been able to walk long distances, go shopping, attend meetings and have social outings. Last year I had a problem with my left leg similar to that of Brennan Smith and I returned for further surgery. This was successful but nerve surgery suggested by Munjed was not and left me with more pain. I lost confidence in Munjed and was interested to see the 60 Minutes and Age reports and what the impact of a well researched, professionally presented documentary would have.
Unfortunately nothing I saw or read demonstrated this. Instead I saw a one-sided tear down which has already had an enormous impact on the mental health and futures of the many patients with successful outcomes. None of whom were interviewed or presented. To use a group of already challenged people for the purposes of sensational television is inhumane.
I cannot believe that the Australian Media Industry can be this heartless except, here it is.
Since this report I have had many friends ask me what I felt. Answering them has, as with Brennan Smith, reduced me to tears.
Thank you so much for a self absorbed, unprofessional presentation which will have a profound, negative effect on amputees for many years to come. Jerks!!!
