Whilst it has the suspense and the plot twists to keep you hooked, it fails at capturing the most important part of film; none of the characters are likeable. The antagonist Andrew is, well, not a very likeable guy for obvious reasons I don’t think I need to explain.
Somehow they managed to make the female role even more unlikeable than someone who’s committed serious crimes. She is paranoid, loud, obnoxious and even though I can remanence and empathise with what happened; she acts as though it gives her a free pass to break the law whenever she feels.
The sister is nearly as bad, the rogue detective who’s also mixed up with them isn’t a smidge likeable.
You can make a show like ‘You’ where the lead is a literal murderer and he’s still more likeable and resonates with the audience better than any characters in Liar
