Terrible film. Joaquin Phoenix gives a very 2 dimensional portrayal of Napoleon ignoring those qualities that allow him to rise to power and gain the allegiance of his armies and the French population. This would have been much better as a TV mini- series allowing more time to focus on Napoleon’s other accomplishments by fostering Enlightenment ideas and improving the quality of life for the French masses. His genius on and off the battlefield is completely lacking replaced instead by a cuckold war monger. Save your money and wait till you can stream it for free, then you’ll only be wasting your time.

I love the Beatles but found this painfully long to watch. Could have made a very interesting 2 hour movie, but instead made 8 hours of the mundane. Maybe having waited 50 years for the rerelease of the original film, I expected too much but for it to be worse - that was both a surprise and disappointment. The good news now is I know not to buy it when available.
