Sword art online was the first anime I ever watched and I was about nine or ten at time. Many people think its an awful anime because the main character Kirito is supposedly to perfect, but it is actually a brilliant anime which makes the audience ask many questions about how the future of gaming can end up. One of these questions is if love is real when it's all in a virtual world. For an American, I noticed how different the culture of Japan and the USA is. Some certain aspects of the plot such as the relationship between Kirito and his sister were pointless and not needed in the show. The overall animation and action sequences were great and of high quality. The show handles the death of characters greatly and surprisingly handles the relationship between Kirito and Asuna well. The way it shows the mental health state of the players inside the death game is great but I personally believe the motive for the creator is not exactly a good enough motive for someone to murder and torture around 12,000 people. The way it made the audience sympathetic for characters such as Sachi and her classmates only to kill them off even going as far as showing the suicide of the last classmate who was not with them during the massacre. Now I may not think all the characters and relationships are necessary, but it handles the subject well overall up until around episode 14. In my opinion, I believe the series should have ended after the two years because I do not believe it was accurate for Kirito and Asuna to ever go back into the virtual reality because of the huge amount of trauma they suffer like the rest of the players stuck in the death game of SAO. Of course, they went back because of the creators wanting to continue with an interesting subject, but my favorite part of the first 14 episodes is how real a virtual world can become with real-life relationships such as Kirito and Asuna's romance being built in this Virtual world. It also answers questions such as how ethical this futuristic virtual technology is when it could go as far as manipulating peoples and minds and torturing them even if it's in their mind.
