It starts off with this brutal stabbing a German in the face to death, and then the least believable discussion in the tank, some battle and it goes black. Weird directorial choices right off the bat let you know what you're in for...
It has every problem a movie can have. It would have been better to go full Tarantino on it and at least make it fun, or lean towards Big Red One and develop characters and give the viewer something to think about, but they did neither. The plot's just guys in a tank kill Nazis, and the guys aren't human, they're badly formed plastic movie characters that nobody likes or can relate to.
Pretty sure the continuity director went AWOL. The montage scene was absolute garbage that added nothing but more time and I can't believe they left it in this bloated pig. But the best is saved for the climactic battle. First the Germans are maybe a minute behind Norman, but they take at least ten somehow (feels like an hour), giving all the worthless characters a chance to say something dumb. The fight starts and it looks about midday, then ten seconds later it's night time. No joke. It's that kind of movie.
Everything that happens is either predictable cliche, or it was just too dumb to predict....no middle ground. It's a shame too; they spent a lot of money and it shows (got it a second star from me even). With a better director and script, this movie could've been great.
In short, if you're the kind of viewer who still misses Hasselhoff from Knight Rider, but you wish it would've had way more violence and way less likeable characters, you're in for a treat with this movie. If you have taste and want to watch a good war movie, this ain't it.
