A genuinely terrible depiction of events.
The acting by Phoenix was lackluster, to say the least. The film also seemed to gloss over almost every victory and success Napoleon had in battle while skipping straight to his failures. The victories they did note were like the film equivalent of someone begrudgingly admitting, "Yeah, he won some".
This film should have been focused on his campaigns displaying him as a master tactician, and highlighting his comradery and friendships with the soldiers who served under him. Perhaps some sad story beats when some of those war heroes who fought and won many battles with and for him finally died? So many lost opportunities with this one. Also, the details of the very first battle of the film were completely wrong.
