Can’t help but feel let down by the movie that was much anticipated and came with a lot of hype. You would probably enjoy the movie more had u not read the book and had no point of reference to the many (many many many) significant moments and milestones missed out or overlooked in the movie.
The book was an absolute gem and loved every bit of it. The movie pales in comparison and may as well have not been based on the book at all! Despite being a die hard fan of Blake lively, her performance also was not at her usual best….having said that, Blake’s character is the only one the casting got right! Rest of the cast don’t bare any resemblance to the characters in the book. Especially Alissa. Such a forgettable performance from her.
Lily’s moms character was so diluted she was hardly there!! For a movie that was meant to carry forward a message on domestic abuse….it barely skimmed through it and almost overlooked the abuse the mother went through - which actually was the root of all what Lily bloom carried with her all her life. It’s like the movie barely acknowledges that.
The journals which were her coping mechanism and what helped her heal and what really depicted the love story between Lily & Atlas was not even factored in the movie. So much else was changed beyond recognition. So much was not even surfaced.
Perhaps the reference the the whole Ellen D was restricted but surely could’ve found a work around that and still keep the core of the plot alive.
The younger Lily & Atlas actually do justice to their bits. The rest leaves u wanting. Disappointed. We thought it would be so much more.
